Memento Mori
Memento mori is a literary or creative motif that serves as a reminder of death's inevitability. The concept has its origins in classical antiquity and Christianity, and it first appeared in funerary art and architecture in the Middle Ages. A skull is the most popular pattern, which is frequently accompanied by one or more bones. Other elements like a coffin, hourglass, and fading flowers symbolized the impermanence of human life and were sometimes used alone to suggest the theme.
